At Ballygowan sustainability is a key pillar of our strategy and we strive to drive sustainable practices in every element of how we do business
Ballygowan is on a continuous journey to be Ireland’s most sustainable bottled water brand. We are a key member of Origin Green and our parent company Britvic Ireland received Gold member status this year. We are committed to sustainable solutions for our water source at Newcastle West, Limerick and the environment and community that surrounds. Every plastic bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic and all of our packaging is recyclable. We are a proud Irish brand and we really care about our product, protecting its source and supporting our local community.
At Ballygowan we believe in a world where packaging never becomes waste and where the recycling process should be as easy as possible
All of our packaging is 100% recyclable.
In May 2021 we relaunched our full PET range into bottles that are now made from 100% recycled plastic. This range is now 100% recycled (excluding cap and label) while also being 100% recyclable. We continue to work on the cap and label.
By moving to 100% recycled plastic this has allowed us to remove 51 million virgin plastic bottles equating to the removal of 1,300 tones of virgin plastic.
In addition to this we reduced our packaging by taking out a further 200 tones through light weighting our packs.
We are committed to continually investigating our packaging options to ensure that we offer the most sustainable packaging . Currently PET provides the most sustainable and safe option for our packs all thing considered.
Plastic Free Cups
This year we have also introduced plastic free cups for our water cooler solutions
CHOOSING IRISH IS NOT JUST IMPORTANT FOR OUR ECONOMY BUT PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN SUSTAINABILITY
Ballygowan is bottled at source in Newcastle West, Limerick Ireland where we have over 40 acres of protected land. We are passionate about protecting the local area around our source and have a biodiversity plan in place. Ballygowan is sourced locally compared to some imported waters that can travel over 1,000km to get to our shops in Ireland.
At Newcastle West we have reduced our direct carbon emissions by over 90% and are committed to eliminating the remaining. Newcastle West is a zero waste to landfill site.
We have a plan in place to get this site to carbon neutral before 2025.
WATER IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT AND A PRECIOUS SHARED RESOURCE
Managing our impact on water, and being good water stewards, is one of our highest environmental priorities. At Ballygowan we take our responsibility for strong water management seriously and we are looking at ways to improve our water stewardship. We continually improve our water efficiency across our manufacturing site, ensuring closed loops wherever possible.
BALLYGOWAN'S JOURNEY TO BE IRELAND'S MOST SUSTAINABLE WATER CONTINUES TO EVOLVE AND WE ARE COMMITTED TO CONTINUALLY PROGRESSING
